Celebrating diversity is an important part of having a healthy classroom culture. I view purposeful inclusion as a combination of the intersectionality of students, families, school and teachers working to provide the highest quality experience possible; environments that foster growth conditions, inclusive programming, choice, teacher collaboration and wrap-around supports create stronger school communities to support all students. Fostering the growth of inclusion through philosophies like Dr. Martin Brokenleg’s Circle of Courage we can strengthen inclusion in our schools by encouraging these core values of generosity, belonging, independence and mastery. When we see and value students for the individual they are, it respects the individual and engenders community in our schools.
