I believe that all students need to feel seen, heard and valued in the classroom; building relationships with students and developing a sense of community within a classroom is the most important strategy to cultivate secure spaces for students. Students that feel they are seen, heard and valued will grow and feel comfortable to take risks in building their personal skill-sets and participate in creating an inclusive safe-space. In my teaching practice I believe in teaching implicit skills, like studying, writing tests etc., explicitly. I also believe that we are learn best when give the opportunity to learn in a hands on physical way. My goal is to collaboratively forge a classroom where students can exercise a degree of voice and choice in their learning, where all students thrive.
