Our current curriculum delivers flexibility to the teacher, while allowing core competencies to be the vehicle we exercise on the journey. It allows a significant amount of autonomy to the teacher, which allows the teacher to develop creative cross-curricular lessons to deliver to students in a more fulsome manner. It also allows for more students’ voice and choice in learning to be exercised through inquiry and project based learning opportunities. If as a teacher you have a class that becomes interested in a specific topic, you may be able to work with that topic and develop your curriculum around that topic; this is the beautiful part of the current curriculum. I find the one area I miss from previous curriculums is the specific depth and breadth of examples for specific subject areas; however, I think the positivies outweigh any critiques of this curriculum. I look forward to getting to do more planning in the future.
