I have been blessed to travel internationally; we chose Curaçao in 2012 because of its UNESCO heritage designation. We visited the downtown core, the Curaçao Museum and the Tula slave museum. We also snorkeled, visited beaches and some downtown restaurants, markets and storefronts. Curaçao has a rich creole culture and language. Then in 2013 and 2014 we visited Kauai, Hawaii. The garden isle is just that, a very beautiful relaxing place with a varied climate. The second time we visited we took our daughters with us to Kauai and enjoyed Kauai by visiting more family orientated spaces. What we found very interesting was that both places were undergoing a cultural reclamation process, they were in different stages and spaces, but it was phenomenal to interact and listen to the local Indigenous populations in both places; each place’s journey of reclamation of their culture is quite distinct.
